Why the Geopolitics Network Group
The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Switzerland belongs to the network of Italian Chambers of commerce abroad recognized by the Italian Government to support Italian exporting SME’s and opportunities to invest in Italy.
By creating this group together with the Limes Club Switzerland we recognize that the global framework SME’s operate in has radically changed in the last few years.
We were used to a flat international market where competitive conditions underneath global trade and investment flows were guaranteed by globalization.
Markets were open and the developed world was mainly peaceful: countries needed to be economically viable to be successful, competitiveness of the companies and of the local markets were the keys to national success.
Things have radically changed in the last few years: whereas competitiveness in exports and ability to attract investments still play a decisive role in a country’s success, history has come back and has reminded us that countries fight for power and national greatness and not only for wealth. Peace is not necessarily a given, even if economic exchange is successful.
The invasion of a European country (Ukraine) by Russia, the heating conflict for Taiwan between the US and China, the Israel Iran conflict in the Middle East and the new assertiveness of the US administration launching a tariffs war on friends and foes alike have disrupted the world we were used to.
By founding this group we intend to offer SME’s and Government agencies working with them up to date points of views on the geopolitical environment and how it affects trade, investments, financial markets and the very strategies of Italian and Swiss companies; we aim at offering our members and partners new elements to carry out a comprehensive risk analysis in nowadays geopolitical turmoil and finally we hope to provide a new and challenging networking platform.
Finally, we hope to provide our business community with a platform to discuss global challenges nations and companies need to face and not only personal growth and daily business issues we have been used to exclusively focus on in the last 20 years.
History is back and probably is not only bad news.
